Dunhuang Flying Apsaras Lacquer Tea Scoop
From the Lacquer Collection, this tea scoop is handcrafted in Dehua, Fujian — China's historic home of ceramic and lacquer artistry. Using traditional raw-lacquer techniques, it is built up layer by layer and polished repeatedly to create a warm, glowing surface.
- Dimensions: 13.5 x 5.5 x 2.5 cm (approx. 5.3 x 2.2 x 1 in)
- Material: Natural lacquer
- Technique: Traditional layered lacquer
- Origin: Dehua, Fujian, China
The textured surface isn't forced or ornate — it echoes the weathered beauty of Dunhuang murals after centuries of wind-blown sand. A cream-white base with black brushstrokes and touches of teal and indigo gives the piece a quiet, wabi-sabi character that blends ancient Dunhuang art with modern East Asian minimalism.
Created by Kang Dejian, a nationally certified senior lacquer technician and graduate of Xiamen Academy of Arts and Design, Fuzhou University. His works have been featured in national exhibitions and collected by museums and intangible-heritage institutions.
Perfect for gifting or adding an artistic focal point to your tea ceremony.
